Fluorinated polymers are widely used as resigns, coatings and textile finishing agents etc. for their excellent surface properties, excellent thermal stability and chemical resistant. Fluorinated block polymers with controlled molecular weight and narrow polydispersity, which could be synthesized via Living radical polymerization, become more and more attractive in many applications due to their controlled structures and excellent properties. In this thesis, several kinds of novel fluorinated polymers and block copolymers synthesized via RAFT living polymerization in organic solvent and supercritical carbon dioxide. The chemical composition and structure of the diblock copolymers are characterized by nuclear magnetic resonance(NMR), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and Gel permeation chromatography (GPC). The effect of fluorine content on surface energy is investigated by static contact angle. In addition, the kinetics of the polymerization in supercritical carbon dioxide was first investigated by in situ IR spectroscopy. In this paper, the formation mechanisms of the diblock copolymer in supercritical carbon dioxide was also investigated in detail.
