The green economy has already received renewed attention across the global countries over the last decade. Metal-air full cell is called as the green energy in term of abundant in raw materials, large capacity, inexpensive and environmental-friendly. The KOH alkaline liquid electrolyte is generally used in the ordinary metal-air full cell, while it has the problems associated with easily carbonated, electrolyte leakage and corrosion.According to the structure of the superabsorbent polymer, a hydrogel polymer electrolyte poly (acrylate-co-acrylamide) (PAAAM) was prepared using acrylic acid, acrylamide and KOH aqueous solution as raw materials by aqueous solution polymerization in order to investigate the applicability of the polymer gel electrolyte to alkaline secondary batteries such as metal-air battery in this paper. The effect of reaction conditions, which included the concentration of the initiator and the cross-linker, the neutralization degree of acrylic acid, the concentration of acrylic monomer and the mass ratio of the acrylamide and acrylic acid, was studied on the uptake and conductivity of hydrogel polymer electrolyte. Meanwhile, the effect of the swollen temperature and the particle size was also discussed on the properties of the hydrogel polymer electrolyte.The PAAAM was modified by adding polyvinyl alcohol and hydroxyethyl methacrylate. In this regard, the amount influence on their properties was investigated. There are compared with the swelling ratio, the conductivity and the conductive mechanism of three hydrogel polymer electrolytes at 25℃.The experimental results were shown that the concentration of the initiator and the cross-linker was 0.1%, the concentration of the cross-linker 0.02%, the neutralization degree of acrylic acid 80%, the concentration of acrylic monomer 25%, the mass ratio of the acrylamide with acrylic acid and the mass of HEMA were 1:6 and 10%, respectively. Under these conditions, the uptake and conductivity of hydrogel polymer electrolyte were 190.75% and 586.67ms·cm-1, respectively. In addition, the conductive mechanism of the polymer bears a striking resemblance to KOH aqueous solutions which is called liquid-like ionic conductivity.
