Four synthetic routes for 1,3-propanediamine were reviewed and compared through scientific literature search, and a synthesis process, which was rational in economics and could possibly be industrialized, was put forward. 1,3-Propanediamine and dipropylenetriamine were gained through catalytic hydrogenation of 3-aminopropionitrile, which was gained through reaction of ammonia and acrylonitrile. The preparation of 1,3-propanediamine by hydrogenation 3-aminopropionitrile as raw material which was synthesized by ammonia and acrylonitrile was studied experimentally. The conversion of acrylonitrile was near 100% and the selectivity of 3-aminopropionitrile was over 70%, while the reaction temperature was 100℃, the mass ratio of ammonia: acrylonitrile:tert-butyl alcohol was 0.802:1:2.5. In the hydrogenating process, the suitable process conditions were defined including reaction temperature (70-80℃) and pressure (3.0MPa) and amount(about 20%) of catalyst being used at the first batch and so on. The yield of 1,3-propanediamine reached over 60% under this condition. And the yield of dipropylenetriamine which was byproduct reached about 20%. It achieved good results in pilot scale test.
