Isopropyl benzene (IPB) is an important organic intermediate, and more than 90% of it was used for the production of phenol and acetone cumene. The main industrial method for the production of IPB is alkylation reaction of benzene with propylene. The traditional production processes, solid acid and aluminum chloride method, have many problems and gradually have been eliminated. Existing IPB production process has turned to efficient, clean zeolite catalyst technology. However, there are many problems in the China Petroleum Jilin Petrochemical's alkylation process ofβmolecular sieve method, such as higher reaction temperature, higher molar ratio of benzene to propylene, larger volume of hydrocarbon fluid circulation, higher energy and material consumption. Therefore, further development of new efficient and clean zeolite catalysts for synthesis of IPB under lower temperature and molar ratio of benzene to propylene is of great significance.The experiment of liquid-phase alkylation of benzene and propylene was carried out over MCM-49 molecular sieve catalyst in this paper. The operating conditions and kinetics of the reaction over the catalyst MCM-49 molecular sieve catalyst are studied by varying space velocity (3.5-8.0 h-1) and molar ratio of benzene to propylene (1.0-4.0) at the temperature ranging from 100.0℃to 140.0℃in a tubular reactor. Single factor test and orthogonal experimental method were combined. Suitable process conditions of liquid-phase alkylation of benzene with propylene over the MCM-49 catalyst were obtained. Macroscopic chemical kinetics model was developed based on the experiment, and the statistical test and comparison between the calculated data with experimental data revealed that the model was reliable.
