Recently, the Yangtze River Delta is facing growing coastal erosion hazards. Managers need coastal erosion hazard analysis and evaluation to help them make the decision. Geographic information system (GIS) is an important tool for the study of coastal erosion, its Multi-source data fusion and spatial analysis play an important role to research coastal erosion hazard. This paper focuses on combining GIS and coastal erosion hazard analysis and evaluation and developing Yangtze River Delta coastal erosion hazard analysis and evaluation GIS application framework.The framework was built based on the plug-in architecture. It was made up by main application, interfaces and plug-ins. And it has of good scalability, versatility and security. This paper mainly researches on the framework as follows:Developing interfaces based on a bridge mode. Developing plug-ins manager based on reflection mechanism. Developing plug-ins parser based on the delegate mechanism. Developing a collection of plug-in based on collection class iterator. Classifying the plug-ins based on the performance. Connecting the plug-ins to main application modules based on hook mechanism. Developing based plug-ins based on ArcGIS Engine built-in components. Developing space analysis plug-ins based on Geoprocessing component.Moreover, two extended plug-ins had been developed for decision support assistance. The first one is involved in the erosion and deposition of the Yangtze River Estuary terrain analysis plug-in. It can analysis the coastline and the contour changing, analysis tidal flat morphology (slope and aspect), analysis section and calculate deposition and erosion rate calculations. The second involves coastal Yangtze River Delta erosion vulnerability fuzzy comprehensive evaluation plug-in, which is applied coastal vulnerability Index method to evaluate the coastal erosion in Yangtze River Delta. And it will provide a quantitative method to coastal erosion hazard risk assessment. The main features of this paper are as follows:1. It flexible reflection and commissioning mechanisms and collection types to design and develop a plug-in manager and a plug-in parser to dynamically achieve plug-in identification and loading.2. The terrain analysis for the erosion and deposition of the Yangtze River Estuary is based on the underwater delta digital terrain. And it provides an interactive and intuitive decision support platform for decision makers, not only quantitative analysis of underwater terrain slope, aspect, profile and other characteristics, but also quantitative analysis the evolution of the underwater topography of erosion and deposition based on historical data.3. The coastal erosion vulnerability fuzzy comprehensive evaluation plug-in applied Fuzzy method and CVI model to the study of the Yangtze River Delta Coastal Erosion vulnerability. It provides a quantitative method to coastal erosion hazard risk assessment.
