The cities'population and wealth are highly concentrated with the rapid development of urbanization process. Once the city suffered a destructive earthquake, it is bound to cause huge casualties and economic losses. As a result, scientific prediction on earthquake damage degree of the engineering structures in the city, and effective defense measures on the weak parts of the existing buildings have very important theoretical and practical significance on realization of Earthquake Disaster Reduction.Based on the characteristics of traditional earthquake damage prediction and the growing updated urban buildings, this paper tries to seek reasonable and simple method on earthquake damage prediction of building stock. The paper carries out some preliminary exploratory study. The main research contents are as follows:1) The monomer sample database is arranged and classified and a method of earthquake damage prediction is established.The paper arranges monomer earthquake damage data of lots of cities in which earthquake damage prediction were carried out. Then the data are classified according to structure type, different regions and so on. The main impact factors of seismic damage of structure are considered and statistical analyzed. A method for earthquake damage prediction of building groups based on multiple factors is established.2) A method for earthquake damage prediction of building groups considering fortification is established.Many previous earthquakes (such as Tangshan earthquake, Wenchuan earthquake etc.) proved that buildings with seismic design have a better behavior in the earthquake than the ones without seismic design. So the paper proposes another method for earthquake damage prediction of building groups considering fortification.3) Results of earthquake damage prediction of building groupsThe paper gives the earthquake damage impact factors and the basic matrix of the multilayer masonry structure and reinforced concrete structure according to the second method.4) Wenchuan earthquake damage database is established. In the Wenchuan earthquake, many seismologists of the Institute of Engineering Mechanics, China Earthquake Administration (IEM) with their expertise and experience of the site inspection spent several months making a systematic investigation on the various structures in the disaster areas and got valuable data. The paper gathers the data together and made a systematic arrangement, and the Wenchuan earthquake damage database is established.
