With the increasing demand to explore distant stars and resources on Earth in recent year, global materials, rocks included, have become the focus of quantitative analysis of LIBS. Laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy (LIBS) has unique advantages, such as freedom from Pretreatment of the material, ability of analyzing many elements simultaneously, high speed of on-line and real-time analysis, remote distance detection capability; detections in the following inappropriate conditions:high temperature, toxic, strong radiation and so on, realization of the exploration on Mars and moon, and etc.The paper first gives a brief description of the technological background and the status quo of LIBS. By introducing the formation process, basic principles and characteristics of the laser induced plasma (LIP) spectrum, it has laid the theoretical foundation for the analysis of material composition with LIBS technique. And it further states methods of quantitative analysis of the current LIBS. Next, it talks about the experiment devices and the improvement of the experiment system by creating sample platform of three-dimensional mobility. Then, to take the standard mineral sample as an example, the quantitative analysis is carried out by utilizing the internal standard normalization method and artificial neural networks statistical method so as to establish the relevant calibration curves and neural network analysis models, and to make refutations of unknown samples. According to the experiment results, the comprehensive utilization of these two methods can, to some extent, improve the measurement accuracy and achieve the rapid measurement of quantitative analysis, which indicates LIBS on-line& real-time analysis is probable. The ending part concludes the main contents of this article, pointing out the deficiencies of usage of LIBS in mineral quantitative measurement and the providing suggestions for future study.
