Calcium-dependent protein kinases (CDPK) have broad physiological functions in the growth of plant, regulation of metabolism, hormone and stress responses. By using Bioinformatics method, we mined out CDPKs sequences of wheat from various databases, and then picked out full length open reading frame (ORF) through contig finding or EST assembling, did alignment among protein sequences of CDPK and other species, so as to predict the structure and function of these CDPKs. The results are as follows:1. One hundred sixty two CDPK related EST sequences of wheat were acquired.2. Ten ORFs of their correlative UniGenes were found though contig finding or EST assembling. By doing protein sequences alignments among CDPK of wheat and other species, we figured out alignment results. Then protein sequences alignment among ORFs of the wheat and other species was made. Ten CDPK UniGenes were proved to be unreported through alignments and protein domain predictions.3. Secondary structures prediction of these CDPKs were gained using software. According to the predicted protein structure, possible biological functions and subcellular locations of these CDPKs were provediscussed.4. Phylogenetic analysis of the 10 CDPK genes was discussed. The results of the present study provided some basis for further gene cloning and functional study of CDPK family in wheat genome.
