Amphibians is an important scientific research value to studing evolution of earth's biological which is Transition group from warter to land and is the first landing of the vertebrate. Amphibian is thought to be the indicator of the health of the environment, because their infiltrative skin made them more susceptive to the quality of habitat. To study the distribution, baundance,Population trends, habitat associations, and threats for amphibian were the foundation and base of the conservation of amphibian.Spiny-bellied Frog(Paa boulengeri Guenther) is endemic species of China. It located in Shanxi, Shaanxi, Gansu, Sichuan and broad areas south of the Changjiang River. In Gansu Province, it only located in Kang county, Longnan. However, the researches about it are not deep and systematic, which is limited to artificial culturing, morphological descriptions and habits of life, the other almost in a blank state of research. With the environmental changes and human activities increased, the habits of Spiny-bellied Frog suffered varying extents of damage, and the population of Spiny-bellied Frog showed a clear downward trend. In 1996, it was classified as "VU" by China Red Data Book of Endangered Animals. It is helpful to understand the ecological characteristics of populations, the relationship between population and environment, and to understanding the habitat types of Spiny-bellied Frog and potential threats through the ecological research on Spiny-bellied Frog. It is also conducive to provide the basis and prerequisite for protecting and utilizing. In this study, April to October in 2007, by direct counting method, transect Method, PRA method to investigate the distribution, quantity of Spiny-bellied Frog in Yangba. Using statistical analysis software, Excel2003 and SPSS, analysis on the reasons for changes in population size, the differences of relative fatness between various age groups, the various transect, male and female individuals and the months. And also using the community surveys conducted a detailed analysis on the utilization of community resources and the awareness of protection. The result shows that Spiny-bellied Frog distributed in Gansu province are mainly focused in Yangba and Tongqian, and Yangba has the largest population. The investigation has found 166 individual ,along with 16 unidentified sex.In Gansu province, Kang county, the population decline of Spiny-bellied Frog is closely related to human activities. There is a significant positive correlation between body length and weight of Spiny-bellied Frog. The linear equation is:Y = 20.09 +1.02*X. It could predict the population dynamics, protect the species and provide a theoretical basis and foundation. The populations of Spiny-bellied Frog will be divided into 4 age groups by using cluster analysis of length and unidentified sex is grouped into ageâ… . The sex ratio is 1:1.517.In Gansu province, Kang county, there are distinct relative fatness between each months. There is no relative significantly differences on fatness of individual male and female in the same age group. There is a negative correlation between relative fatness and age. There are significant differences between the populations of Spiny-bellied Frog in Meiyuangou upstream and Songgou.Based on results of surveys and analysis of risk factors, the recommendations as:1. Protection and restoration the habit environment of Spiny-bellied Frog.2. To resume wild populations by artificial culture in the main habit, Yangba.3. Strengthen law enforcement and adjusting the concept of the development of tourism resources.4. Established public education point to protect Spiny-bellied Frog.5. Through artificial reproduction or directly gathering eggs, reintroduction after indoor reintroduction to ensure that wild populations'natural gene flow, to effectively protect wild populations of Spiny-bellied Frog.
