The structure of raster dataset is simple and can be perceived directly. It is good for the computer operation and process. So it is one of the mostly used data types. The analysis of raster dataset is the base and center of the GIS analysis. Raster analysis includes distance analysis,density analysis,surface analysis,statistic analysia,resample,raster calculation,ect.GIS is widely used in more and more domains and becomes important system in them. ESRI Grid is the peculiar data type in ArcGIS software. Because of its easy getting, it is used in the spacial analysis. So how to edit,manage and use this data reasonably and effectively is what we interest.This article makes a deep research in ArcGIS software and ESRI Grid,including the data type,structure,storage type,edit and application of Grid. ArcSDE is also talked in this article. The lead of ArcSDE supplies an effective resolve to the storage,management and application of Grid. Using GIS component-ArcEngine and C#,the system of the edit and application of Grid is built. This system implements data management,map browsing,data edit,spatial analysis and 3D display functions. This system can help the person to modify, manage the data according to the engineering need and apply it to engineering projects like circuit design,cut\fill,project budget and so on. It can raise desigen and construction efficiently,and can save manpower and resource. It will be used in investigation,traffic and construction.This article discusses the following aspects:1. The recent applicaion of Grid and GIS component.2. Deep research of Grid data which provides basic theories to this system.3. Lead ArcSDE to manage Grid data.4. Construct the Edit and Application of ESRI Grid Based on ArcEngine.
