Research status of element analysis using PGNAA, experimental principle of coal quality analysis by pulse neutron, MCNP code and its calculation method are introduced. Simulation of varied thickness of coal seam is carried out using MCNP code when the shied of pulse neutron coal quality analyzer is fixed. When the size of bunker is unchanged, calculation of thickness of bituminous coal and lignite varied from 1cm to 30cm is carried out. The number of characteristic gamma rays, which are generating from carbon, hydrogen and oxygen that are the main elements in coal, is used as a reference. As the thickness changes every 1cm, one set data is obtained , the optimal thickness is determined by comparing the data. bituminous coal, the area of characteristic peaks of the main elements are larger when the thickness varies from 14cm to 24cm. For the lignite, the optimal thickness is from 18cm to 25cm. Better counts of characteristic gamma rays of the main elements in different coal could be gained when the thickness is approximately varies 18cm to 25cm according to test devices and different coal. Percentage contents of carbon, hydrogen and oxygen can be calculated accurately, thus the foundation for further calculation of moisture content, ash volatility, low calorific value and total moisture is laid.Study of varied thickness of coal seam using MCNP code could be used to design the size of bunker more reasonably and the thickness of the coal seam so that accuracy of the coal quality analyzer can be improved greatly. |
