Terrestrial Oligochaeta hydrodynamic,commonly known as earthworm,belongs to the phylum annelida and the subclass Oligochaeta.Hainan is the only large tropical island in South China with diverse endemic flora and fauna.The earthworm fauna in Hainan is clearly distinct from those in other regions of China.It's very important for the theoretical study of phylogeny and paleogeography and practical study of biodiversity and natural conservation.Research into the classification of earthworms is important to the understanding of the earthworms' phylogeny and evolutionary development.It is also valuable to the sustainable utilization and protection of its biodiversity.The earliest research on earthworms from Hainan Island was carried out by Chen Yi in 1938,who reported 32 species.Since then,research into this area remains fairly stagnant,with only three new earthworm species from Hainan reported by Quan and Zhong. In 2006,we carried out a study on a sample of earthworms collected on Hainan Island.We studied almost all papers regarding the discovery of new earthworm species in Southeast Asia and Hainan Island during the past two centuries.We also dissected and described the anatomy of about 200 earthworms,among which 10 new species were identified.They are Amynthas diaoluomontis sp.nov.,Amynthas octopapillatus sp.nov.,Amynthas zhangi sp.nov.,Amynthas lingshuiensis sp.nov.,Amynthas hongi sp.nov.,Amynthas conchipapillatus sp.nov.,Amynthas dongfangensis sp.nov.,Amynthas bouchei sp.nov.,Amynthas omodeoi sp.nov.,Amynthas edwardsi sp.nov.We also compiled a list of earthworms form Hainan Island.This paper gives an objective coding to 23 characters of the 10 new species according to the principles of numerical taxonomy and matrix of data.Using DPS for factor correspondence analysis,we concluded the most important characters include the distance between spermathecal pores,male field genital papillae,diverticulum:main pouch,width,ampulla,setae numerous and proportion of terminal chamber which are very essential for identify the colony.Finally,we produced a cluster analysis diagram and distinguished A.dongfangensis from the 10 new species.We conclude that the other 9 can be distinguished two colonies which are A.diaoluomontis,A.zhangi,A.octopapillatus,A.lingshuiensis,A.omodeoi,A.edwardsi,A.bouchei and A.hongi,A.conchipapillatus.Each has a close phylogenetic relationship.
