On The Improvement Of GMO Labeling System In China

This paper analyzed the necessity for establishment and improvement of the GMO labeling system. Then the problems of the GMO labeling system in China were introduced. In the last part some suggestions were made to improve it.Starting with some terms correlative to GMO, the thesis analyzed the definition of GMO and its impacts. Most of the nations have the positive attitude to the research and application of GMO and more and more GMO products appear in our lives. The GMO research and industrial applications had made remarkable achievements. GMO play an important role in resolving food shortages and enhancing human health. However, the application of GMO has caused some serious problems. Perhaps GMO will bring terrible impacts to the health of human beings and animals as well as ecological balance. That is the problem faced by many countries.The thesis also expounds the groundwork of validity of ruling GMO bio-safety field—the necessity for the establishment of GMO labeling system. Because of the safety problem of GMO and consumers'right to know, no one can guarantee the safety of GMO and the damages can be brought by GMO. That is why we should establish good systems to reduce the loss. Consumers have rights to know whether the products they bought are GMO or not. Producers who make money from people buying food should be responsible for identifying how the food was produced so people can make informed decisions. Therefore, GMO labeling system is necessary for the protection of people's right to know and the establishment of the flow-up system so as to trace to the source.GMO research and the application of the technology have made considerable progress, and even reached the international advanced level in some research fields. However, the labeling system in China has some problems. Some suggestions were given aimed to solve these problems. GMO labeling system is a part of the GMO bio-safety system and plays an important role to the establishment and improvement of other correlative systems. Labeling system should also be supported by other correlative systems.
