Vibratory cutting is a new metal machining process, which has been developed only recently. It has many advantages that conventional metal cutting cannot attain, especially for some difficult-to-cut materials and some hard process for ordinary materials. The vibratory cutting has already gained its reputation and has been used in some fields including turning, drilling tapping and grinding in practical workshops. It is considered one of the most important trends of modern metal machining technology. The vibratory cutting process has been analyzed from the kinematics and the dynamics in this paper. And according to the elasticity theory the stress wave is activated under the impact force in the vibratory cutting process. Based on the low frequency vibratory cutting system, here uses finite element analysis software ANSYS to build the model of the work piece. And gives the forces to this model which according to the vibratory cutting principle and get the solution data. The solution data is been analyzed in order to clarify the microscopic mechanism of the vibratory cutting. The experiment and finite element analysis have proven the shock load has great influence on the chip formation. And the influence of the shock between the cutter and the chip leading to the stress waves in the deformation zone repeatedly and makes the metal in the fatigue state so as to create the micro-crack and the crack. It was demonstrated, the process method makes it easy that the tiny crack nucleated and propagated. And the process method also reduces the tool-chip interface friction . It make the cutting forces lower and the accuracy higher.
