The magnetic field is one of the basic research tools in experimental physics. With the development of science and technology, the demand of higher magnetic field is inspired. As an extreme research environment, High Magnetic Field is widely used in physics, chemistry, life sciences and so on. High Magnetic Field can be classified as steady-state one and pulsed one. As the generator of latter one, pulsed magnet is relatively easier for manufacturing, operating, maintaining and can produce much higher field. This paper is a comprehensive study on the analysis, design and optimization of pulsed magnets. The emphasis is focused on the calculation of the basic parameters, the effect of crowbar and the distribution of the temperature and stress field in magnets. In discharging calculation part, the analyses mainly include the method of how to calculate the waveform of magnetic field and its distribution in the space. Meanwhile, both magneto-resistance and skin effect are taken into account. For stress part, studies are on the forces on conductors, the problem caused by, and then a solution of the problem is designed.Based on the research above all, numerical simulations for pulsed magnets with different conductors and different material reinforcement are done by the commercial finite element software ANSYS. And the results obtained by ANSYS show good agreements with the experimental data in the calculation of magnetic field and stress. What's more, the flaw of ANSYS for magnet application is also referred in the end.
