Complex networks have been the key approach of investigating the structure andfunction of all kinds of complex systems in nature and society. Recently, it is found thatthere is scale-free property in many complex systems including Internet, WWW andmetabolic network. Therefore, if we want to investigate complex systems, we shouldstudyscal e-free network first.This paper can be divided into three sections. Section I reviews the developmentprocess of complex networks, summarizes the basic theories of complex networks anddiscusses the epidemic dynamics of complex networks. In section II, after analyzingcitation network and airport network, an improved scale-free network is proposed basedon BA scale-free network. Then, the degree distribution of improved scale-free networkis calculated by Markov chains approach. And then, the degree distribution of improvedmodel is simulated by MATLAB. The simulation result shows that the degreedistribution of improved model is not a straight line as BA model, but a curve in doublelogarithm coordinates. Finally, we discuss the robustness of improved model. Thediscussion result shows that the robustness of improved model is better than that of BAmodel under random failures or intentional attacks. A research platform of complexnetworks is designed with Visual C++ according to the thought of object-orientedprogramming in section III. It not only can draw topological structural graph accordingto user's input, but also can analyze the topological characteristics of given network.
