Building a quantitative geological model that can reflect the reservoir geologic characters and scales is the core and purpose of modern reservoir description, the key of reservoir simulation and dynamic prediction, also the base of knowing the reservoir objectively and truthfully and developing the reservoir efficiently and accurately. The paper focuses on the fine geological modeling, and takes the Zhao 40 block in Zhaozhou oilfield as an example, using different theories and techniques of many subjects including sedimentary, sequence stratigraphy, petroleum geology, development geology, reservoir engineering and so on. Aiming at the reservoir geological character, on the base of basic geological study, it sets up the 3D geological modeling of the Zhao 40 block. The model shows the underground geological characters objectively, correctly and externally, reveals the concentration rules of oil and gas, and settles the base of developing this reservoir efficiently and accurately. And some outcomes have been achieved based on this study.1. Under the guidance of traditional method of"correlating according to sedimentary and geological hierarchy control", about 118 wells in work area have been correlated referring to the marker bed, so the Pu-I is divided into 6 sedimentation units and the Fuyu is divided into 29 sedimentation units. They are the minimum sedimentation units.2. Based on the core observation, according to lithologic characters, physical property, and sedimentary structure, depositional sequence, areal distribution feature of sand body and the character of well logs, the sedimentary facies in work area is identified as inside and outside delta-front subfacies, and there are two types of sand body sedimentation: distributary channel and delta-front sheet sand, not only the delta-front sheet sand.3. From the plane of analysis, the difference between the east and west is large. Looked both from every single unit and the whole, the sand body in the west develops better than the one in the east.4. By using the reservoir modeling software PETRELTM, the 3D geological models of Zhao 40 block, including structure model, the sedimentary microfacies model, sand body model, property models, and effective thickness model are established. The geological models become the base of reservoir simulation and dynamic prediction in the future.5. Superimpose sedimentary facies maps of different modules, plot the isopach maps and establish the 3D geological models. By use of these predict the sand body in the open area, identify the area around Zhou 191 and Zhao 59-45 is the better well block. It is the geological base of the next exploitation work.
