The luminescent properties of phosphors are highly significant in studies of PDPs (Plasma Display Panels) and Mercury-free fluorescent lamps. To exploit new fungible materials of better performance, the possibility of Sr2MgSi2O7: Re (Re = Eu2+, Dy3+) as new red, green, blue and full-color Vacuum Ultraviolet (VUV) phosphors was explored. The single phase of Sr2MgSi2O7 samples was prepared by precipitation synthesis and then doped with Eu2+ or Dy3+. The phase and luminescent properties of the doped particles were analyzed by the techniques of X-ray Diffraction (XRD) and the spectra of excitation and emission, respectively. Furthermore, Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) was utilized to illustrate the shape and size of the particles which shows best emission intensity and thermal stability. The blue-emitting Sr2MgSi2O7: Eu2+ was compared with commercial BaMgAl10O17: Eu2+ in the aspects of emission intensity and thermal stability in the investigation, and some efforts have been made in ameliorating the color purity of the white-emitting Sr2MgSi2O7: Dy3+.In addition, the new molybdate Sr2CaMoO6: Eu3+ was synthesized by simple solid state reaction. Some abecedarian studies that contain the luminescent properties of the Sr2CaMoO6: Eu3+sample in Ultraviolet (UV) and VUV region have been carried out.
