DLP (Digital Light Processing) is drawing increasing attention in display technology domain. Compared to other techniques such as LCD, LCOS or PDP, DLP could achieve higher luminance, higher contrast, higher definition, higher reliability, and reproduce color more accurately, which makes it a popular Micro-display technique. LED shows several advantages including long life, wide color gamut, low cost, fast switch, harmless radial. Due to the increasing flux output and higher efficiency, LED is bound to replace the combination of high pressure mercury lamp and color wheel to become the new light source for Micro-display system.This paper focuses on the research of the LED-based DLP projection system. We proposed a set of complete DLP projection system model based on high-power LED and developed the first DLP optical engineprototype based on high-power LED with low expense in our country whose entireperformance analysis is given in this paper. We proposed the dynamic LED color gamut mapping method that resolves the problem of real-time adjustment in wide color gamut LED display system. We made amendment to the CIE measuring standard and proposed the LED device luminance measuring method using "Standard Light Source A", which contributes to the establishment of "Measuring methods for Optical properties of LED" industry standard. We proposed a method of improving color-rendering index of white LED with supplying color.
