Landslide hazard is one of the most serious and frequent natural hazards. Each year it causes a loss up to billions of dollars in the whole world. This hazard gives great damages to the country and people's lives and properties. And they are the very single--landslides that lead to the loss directly. So, in front of the serous landslide hazard, in order to measure the influence of hazard on life and property a risk assessment theory needs to be applied to. At the same time, Lijiaxia landslide which is in Long area, Shan Xi province, is unstable and imperiling life and property at present, so it is very necessary to make a risk assessment.Based on the risk assessment results of landslide hazard both at home and abroad, the authors describe the method of the risk assessment of single-landslide hazard. The concept includes the probability of landslide failure, calamity, vulnerability, the value of element at risk and the acceptable risk level. The calculating methods and the style of expressing of total risk are put forward.Risk assessment is made for the Lijiaxia landslide, using the method studied above. Based on field investigation and laboratory tests, the stability of Lijiaxia landslide is studied firstly. The result says that Lijiaxia landslide is unstable and the safety coefficient is 1.16; the probability of landslide failure is 0.15, which is resulted from Monte Carlo method. Then, make an assessment for vulnerability, getting the probability of calamity, taking 1 as the result. Classify elements at risk according as their characters, and calculate the ratio of the value loss. Calculate the value loss of elements at risk, emphasizing at studying the method of calculating the value loss of people's life.8.75 millions are educed as the total value loss using the risk assessment formula, after getting the result of probability of landslide failure, calamity, vulnerability, and the value of element at risk. At last, acceptable risk level is studied, and conclusion is educed that the risk level of Lijiaxia landslide is beyond the ac- -ceptable risk level.This paper puts forward a risk assessment method which is the same with single-landslide, taking Lijiaxia landslide for example. The technique and method adopted and the idea have some value and use for referance to other single landslide.
