During the past one and half centuries, photogrammetry has experienced two stages of analog photogrammetry and analytical photogrammetry and has stepped into the digital photogrammetry age. The development of modern science and technology have brought about a revolution in obtaining aerophotography and airborn space information. The development and maturity of navigation of GPS aerial photography, GPS and inertial measurement unit, airborne laser scanner, digital air camera etc technique, make today spatial information obtain more and more quickly, effectively and accurately. At the same time, the development of science technology and society also put forward the higher demand to photogrammetry. The establish and wider application of all kinds of geographic information system brings great and urgent demand, which promoted the produce of digital aerial camera, to reliable space data obtained and rapidly update. It will be a general tendency for aerophotography in the future to lead GPS and inertial measurement unit technique roundly into aerophotography, in order to realize controlling automation in areophotography. And it will be the inevitable trend to the development of photogrammetry to research and invent High-accuracy digital camera to realize ingesting digital information and transmission in real time. ADS40 push-broom areophotography sensor, as a kind of "new" digital air camera, has been applied to the practice and shows the powerful life force.Firstly, this paper introduces the pivotal integrated technology of digital air camera, expatiates the imaging equation and stereo imaging principle of Three-Line Scanner sensor, compares the imaging method and image's character of ADS40 camera with conventional frame camera , and discusses the geometric relationship of the image which obtained by the two sensors. Secondly, this paper researches the characteristic of conventional air camera and digital air camera, and discusses the key peculiarity and superiority. And then, it labors the efficiency of airborne digital sensor through flight of aerial photography, controlling survey and disposing of data etc. What's more, analyzes its application expectations in some domain. Thirdly, the paper probes into the precision in large scale mapping by ADS40 airborne digital sensor through researching applies ADS40 airborne digital sensor to produce 1:2000 scale topographic map and digital orthograph in GaoPing BoFang survey.
