Ejina Banner is an extremely arid desert region, which is located at the north edge of Hexi Corridor and the west of A La Shan League. There are Gobi, desert and low massif in most areas of Ejina Banner. Vegetation degradation and the loss of biodiversity, which are caused by the extremely drought climate and the sharply r decrease of downstream water amount in Hei river have accelerated the desertification. The desertification of the land will lead to vicious circle, as it could take away the soil organic matter and bring on the disorder of the substance cycle in ecosystem. What's more, it could accelerate the degradation of existing vegetation. In short, the vegetation degeneration causes the land desertification, while the desertification will accelerate the vegetation degeneration. Therefore, the latent desertification areas are easier to give birth to the vegetation degeneration. Based on this, this paper choosed vegetation fraction, soil texture, the number of gale days and landform as the sensitivity factor, then, assessmented the sensitivity of land desertification by one single factor assessment and multiple-factor overall assessment GIS technology method. After this we focused on the sensitivity of five different kinds of typical vegetation and gave them the sensitivity assessment of land desertification so as to find the key protection areas of them, which can provide reference and basis for the protection and restoration of vegetation. This research mainly obtains the following results:The area of high sensitivity zone of land desertification is 32997.80km2, accounting for 56.55% of the study area; the area of middle sensitivity zone of land desertification is 24152.41km2, accounting for 41.40% of the study area; the area of low sensitivity zone of land desertification is 1194.05km2, accounting for 2.05% of the study area. The area of high sensitivity zone of Populus euphratic aoliv is 38.46km2, accounting for 5.55% of Populus euphratic aoliv area; The area of high sensitivity zone of Reaurnuria soongorica is 13411.96km2, accounting for 53.44% of Reaurnuria soongorica area. The area of high sensitivity zone of Haloxylon ammodendron is 2589.65km2, accounting for 43.04% of Haloxylon ammodendron area. The area of high sensitivity zone of Tamarix is 1217.52km2, accounting for 29.95% of Tamarix area. The area of high sensitivity zone of Calligonum mongolicum Turcz is 2172.36km2, which accounts for 94.89% of Calligonum mongolicum Turcz area...
