This thesis relates to the research of electroluminescence of inorganic-organic complex device. We tried two methods to improve the performance of solid-state cathodoluminescence (SSCL) device. One method is using phosphorescence as the luminous layer of solid-state cathodoluminescence device. The other one is using cascade structure in solid-state cathodoluminescence device. The devices of sandwiched structure were prepared by compounding tris(2-phenylpyridine)iridium (Ir(ppy)3) with SiO2. The green emission of Ir(ppy)3 at 517 nm and a blue electroluminescence at 435 nm were obtained from the devices under AC voltage. Both the green and the blue emission were attributed to the solid-state cathodoluminescence (SSCL) of Ir(ppy)3 excited by hot electrons which were accelerated in SiO2. Phosphorescent SSCL is confirmed. The devices of sandwiched structure were prepared by compounding poly[2-methoxy-5-(2'-ethyl-hexyloxy)-l,4-phenylene vinylene] (MEH-PPV) with SiO2. The thickness of MEH-PPV of these devices are different. We found the suitable frequency of drive voltage to obtain the greatest brightness. The device of cascade structure was prepared based on this work. The brightness of device of cascade structure was stronger then the device of conventional structure. This is because of the inserting SiO2 layer. We obtained useful results for improve the performance of SSCL device by using these two methods.
