In oil exploration and development, the formation stress plays an increasingly important role, for example, resolving the problem of bore hole mechanical instability in the process of drilling, predicting the direction of artificial fracture and water injection, et. al. Because the imaging logging have some features such as high resolution, high precision and full hole coverage, can accurately identifying the breakouts position and the direction of fracture, and then determining the formation stress orientation, then the use of imaging logging data to study the formation stress analysis is of grate practical and economic significance.Currently, the main information of imaging logging used for the formation stress analysis is FMI, STAR, CBIL, DSI and XMAC. Firstly in this paper, summarized the various analysis and calculation methods of the formation stress through the survey and study of stress field by home and abroad scholars. Secondly, the major studies are the development, research methods and existence problems of the imaging logging formation stress analysis and calculation. Finally, the data process and interpretation of the Chinese Continental Scientific Drilling is underway by the use of eXpress and GeoFrame software, and the existence problems were discussed.According to the research we can know that the borehole macro axis and the direction always indicate the orientation of minimum horizontal stress, the extend direction of drilling induced fracture indicate the orientation of maximum horizontal stress. The rock mechanical properties can be calculated by the dipole acoustic and the density well logging, and the stress quantitative analysis can be executed by means of combined with the effective overburden pressure and mud pressure. Imaging logging data process and interpretation results show that the stress magnitude is increasing with depth, the relationship of the stress magnitude between different depths is essentially linear relationship. The orientation of maximum horizontal stress within the region of research is comparatively steady; for the upper and lower the roughly orientation is NWW and for the central is NEE.
