The thesis studied on biological characteristic, production performance and seed development physiological characteristic of Elytrigia The main purpose is to indicate the developmental traits of Elytrigia.The regeneration periods of Elytrigia were 245 days longer than others, The sexual reproduction periods were shorter than the non-sexual repoduction periods. The lasting time of the early vegetative developing periods showed difference in different rhizomatous types. In periods of nutrient growth, the lasting time of the early vegetative developing periods and the late vegetative developing periods was remarkably different in different rhizomatous types.The seed moisture content dropped and seed dry weight increased gradually with the seed development and nearly changed in the seed physiological maturity. Seed moisture content and the weight of 1000 seeds of Elytrigia, including seed dry and fresh weight were different in different species after seed maturity.The Seed Development of Elytrigia were different in different species, Elytrigia elongate(Jose) was short rhizomatous and had the capability of germination in 11 days after peak anthesis. E. repens,E. intermedia and E. trichophora were middle rhizome and had the capability of germination in 17 days after peak anthesis. E. smithii (Barton) having not the capability of germination was long rhizomatous and dormant. The extent of seed dormancy concerned with rhizomatous development, the longer the rhizomatous were, the more dormancy the seeds were.Because of the dormancy of some seeds of Elytrigia, evaluating the seed vigor of Elytrigia by the Seed germination rates wasn't logical. The conductivity can show seed vigor difference of Elytrigia during the seed development, however, TTC content cannot show the trend. Seed vigor of Elytrigia increased gradually during the seed development and was the best in the seed physiological maturity .The soluble sugar contents increased gradually during the seed development but the starch contents dropped, they were complementary.The peak value of 4 kinds endogenous hormones contents has distinct order in appearing time and has the same law of Elytrigia.The peak of GA and ABA appeared firstly in 8-14d, the second was IAA , the last was ZR. The content is different but change law is sameness in species.The tassel rates,burliness rates and germination rares of Elytrigia were more than Leymus chinense. The biomass of Elytrigia was remarkably different in different rhizomatous types.
