The drainage pattern is formed by the ground stress, and it expresses some characters of geology and geography. It can reflect the characters of geological structure and crustal movement by investigating the information of drainage pattern. We can recognize the drainage system from its difference of pan as dendritic drainage, braided drainage, parallel drainage, radiate drainage, fanlike drainage, annular drainage, cancellated drainage and so on. It has an important practical significance in offering essential information and data for the decision-maker with recognition and classification the drainage system from the image of remote sensing.Firstly, with the theory of image—color model and pixels' connection, itcompletes the conversion from color to grey and the binaryzation operation for digital image. When do the binary image processing, we can chose different range with different requirement and obtain the right binary image.Secondly, on the basis of morphological, with the principle of transformation between hit and miss, the digital image with thinned is carried out in eight direction frame.Thirdly, drainage system is a very complex image graphics. The extract of drainage system characteristics usually depends on manual visualization. With the analysis of braided drainage in the nature, this thesis put forward that repeated crunodes are the main characteristics of braided drainage recognition.Finally, with the technique of parsing and the automaton pattern recognition in the syntactic pattern recognition, the classification of braided drainage is carried out. A program is programmed for the braided drainage automatic recognition and obtains a good result.
