Catechol is an important and applied extensive chemicalintermedia. The fields which is applied contain chemistry, agriculture, medicine, light industry and foodstuff etc. Although most of Catecholis produced by the way of chemo-synthesis, the means of transformingSodium benzoate to catechol by zymotechnics is more attractiverecently.Total 44 microorganisms were isolated from several soil samplesbased on sodium benzoate as a sole carbon source. The X16 has thehighest activity to producing catechol. The strain X16 was identifiedas Pseudomonasp sp. according to its character and 16S rDNA sequenceanalysis. The catechol production of Pseudomonasp sp. X16 was studied indetail. The output of catechol reach 1.0mg/mL after optimization of cultureconditions. At the same time sodium alginate, PVA, gelatin and sodium alginatemixed with PVA were used to the study of cell's immobilization. To optimizated the condition and comparison immobilization effect of the single materials andthe mixing materials that the sodium alginate mixed with PVA was the bestmaterial, The output of catechol reach 1.4mg/mL.after ultrasonic disruption, measure the activity of catechol 1, 2-dioxygenaseand catechol 2, 3-dioxygenase in pH, temperature, metal ions and reaction timeetc. which built the foundation for the next research.
