Palembus dermestoides (Coleoptera:Tenebrionidae) is found in several Southeast Asian countries, and Fiji island. It is also reared in Hannan, Guangdong, and Fujian provinces in China. However, it is reported as stored grain insect and medicine insect by many researches in the past; but in the recent years, P. dermestoies has highlighted as feed insect. It is a high quality feed for specific economic creature such as turtle, scorpion, etc. It is focused for it's short development phase, superior reproductivity, easily reared and controlled traits, free from contamination, high value. Now, the room mass rearing has occurred in China. This article studies on the ecology of P. dermestoides and chitin extract of adult. It tends to provide scientific evidence for the exploration and exploitation of P. dermestoides more deeply. The results are as follows:1. Observation on the reproductivity behavior and effect of feeding material on the reproductivity of the femaleThe male begin to chase the female tentatively, when the male find the female. While chasing, the male collide the female's teminatio with it's trophi, and rub the female 's wing-case with it's antenna continuously; this process will last about 10 min, and if the female is unwilling to mate, the male would give up. Both the male and female could mate many times in the life span, even several times mating could occurred between two certain female and male.Different feeding material has significant effect on it's reproductivity. The research found, the wheat powder are more suitable for P. dermestoides's reproductivity. With wheat powder, the preoviposition is 6.5 d,egg is 29.74 d,life expectancy is 157.87d,and amount of egg is 78.70. Egg lays together. 2. The effects of humidity on development and survival of P. dermestoides in the immature periodUnder 65%,55% relativ humidity,P. dermestoides can't finish their generation. Almost observations died at their low instars. The eggsl phase is similar under every relative humidity, but the survival ratio of eggs is bigest at 85% RH.,it is 89.31%.The larval phase is shortest at 95%RH.,it is 36.5 days.the survival ratio of larval is bigest at 95% RH.,it is 95.66%.The pupae phase is shortest at 85%RH.,it is 4.0 days.the survival ratio of pupae is bigest at 85% RH.,it is 77.33%.3 Chitin content in the adult of P. dermestoidesChitin content in the adult is 22.5%.the ratio of takeing off acetyl is 81% which is biger than 70%.So it is suit for industrial standards.4 Influence of sour density, time, temperature on chitin extration of adultThe square one which withdraws an Palembus dermestoides an insect chitin is to take off in addition to mineral quality. At take off in addition to mineral quality the sour density should control or so in the 0.8 mol/L, the temperature is in 40℃,time's is a 24 h for proper.5 Influence of Alkali density, time, temperature on chitin extration of adultThe second step which withdraws an Palembus dermestoides an insect chitin is to take off protein, at take off in addition to protein the density of alkali should control in the 2.0 mol/L, the temperature is in 70℃,time is a 4 h for proper.
