Since numerous periphyton algae can be found in water,the configuration of them are correlated with the water environment and the ecology characteristic of them infect the water they live in significantly. That is to say the water quanlity can be mornitored by analysing the species and the amount characerastic of the periphyton algae.When the environment is polluted , the periphyton algae can not live naturely any more.Periphyton algae are attached to something in their lifecycle, the water quanlity they embody are more vertical than the phytoplankton to some extent and they can be used for mornitoring water quanlity clearly. At the same time, these periphyton algae can be used for setting up water healthy index system and evaluating the rehabilitation of hydrophily ecology. Based on periphyton algae community study of three samples of Huangpu river and four samples of Suzhou Creek continuously from May,2005 to April,2006, from the analysis of class, density, diversity index and dominant species changes of the two rivers , the water quanlity can be mornitored by the periphyton algae to some extent. The result analysis showed that The general amount of algae of Huangpu river is 107 and can be divided into 28 genuses of which the Bacillariophyta can be classified into 13 genuses including 70species with the highest percentage 65.42%; Then the Chlorophyta can be classified into 8 genuses including 24species with percentage 22.42 % ; The Cyanophyta can be classified into 5 genuses including 11 species with percentage 10.28%; The same to the Eugienphyta, the Xanthophyta can be classified into 1 genuses including lspecies with the lowest percentage 0.935%. The general amount of algae of Suzhou Creek isll9 and can be divided into 33 genuses of which the Bacillariophyta can be classified into 17 genuses including 81species with the highest percentage 68.06%; Then the Chlorophyta can be classified into 9 genuses including 23species with percentage 19.32 % ; The Cyanophyta can be classified into 5 genuses including 10 species with percentage 8.40 %; The Eugienphyta can be classified into 2 genuses including 4species with percentage 3.36%; Then the Xanthophyta can be classified into 1 genuses including lspecies with the lowest percentage.By the indicator periphyton algae,the water quanlity of the Huangpu river and Suzhou creek can bemonitored.By using SPSS,the correlation of each periphyton algae species can be showed ,so some new indicator periphyton algae can be found.For Huangpu river .For Suzhou creek ,there also are some new species can indicate the water pollution.For these years, there are many scientists make research on the water polluted by the heavy metal .This paper make research of the toxicity of the Cd to the periphyton algae.The result shows the biomass of periphyton algae is less when the Cd is more.
