As the third largest island in china, Chongming Island is one of the most potential developing spaces of Shanghai. In recent years, saltwater intrusion greatly interfaces the construction of water resources. Therefore, it is of great academic and science significance to carry on the research on saltwater intrusion and set up the early warning mechanism so as to prevent and alleviate the harm of it.Considering the scalability, agility of system and the high-efficiency in developing and using, this thesis advances four function modules for the system, according to the demand of early warning system and the GIS information platform, as well as the characteristic of Chongming Island. These function modules mostly include salinity field query of special dry year, dynamic of saltwater intrusion, web-based real time monitoring and analyzing of runoff. The thesis consists of five chapters. Chapter 1 is introduction. The background of title selection and significance of the research are introduced. This chapter presents the main contents of the research. Chapter 2 discusses the influence of the saltwater intrusion towards the water resource of Chongming Island. The current situation of water resource, dynamic mechanism of saltwater intrusion and the factors affecting the saltwater intrusion are introduced, besides, the influence of the saltwater intrusion towards the water resource of Chongming Island in special dry year is presented. Chapter 3 illustrates the system overall design. System requirement analysis, system development platform, system models and system database designing are introduced. Chapter 4 discusses the development and application of system, mainly introduces the principle of saltwater intrusion early warning module. Chapter 5 concludes the thesis, summarizes the including insufficient aspects and brings forward further research. The innovative aspects of this thesis are as follows: first, choosing Yangtze River estuary as the research area shows great representation and demonstration. Second, traditional research on saltwater intrusion mainly focuses on the aspects of three dimension numerical simulation, but this thesis focuses more on GIS technology from the angle of special data. Third, the web-based real time monitoring module is set up, and the on the basis of that, the early warning system is developed.
