Tender roots and leaves of 2 years old Populus euphratica treated with NaCl were collected and used in microarray studies. Experimental data shows toatally 160 genes were differentially expressed. And 113 genes out of them were up-regulated in leaves and 47 genes were up-regulated in the roots. Among these genes 23 of them showed a ratio of hybridization signal more than 100 times stronger in one tissue , among them 18 genes were up-regulated in leaf and 5 genes were up-regulated in root. For genes who's ratio of hybridization signal were between 50 to 100 times, 19 of them were up-regulated in leaf and 11 of them in root. Totally 49 genes with a ratio of hybridization signal within 20 to 50 times were observed and among them 38 were up-regulated in leaf and 11 in root. For those with a ratio of 10 to 20 times , 37 genes were up-regulated in leaf and 20 of them were up-regulated in root. Genes involved in photosynthesis showed stronger transcription level in leaf ,while the genes which were thought to be related with salt tolerance and osmotic stress showed a higher expression level in root, In presented studies we did not find homolg of the genes involved in roots development in Arabidopisis thaliana.implying that Populus euphratica and Arabidopisis thaliana may have difference in roots development regulation.
