This is a research on Triparty en la Science des Nombres, which is the first part of the mathmetical manuscripts written by Nicolas Chuquet in 1484. Based on the study with extensive translation of this material, this paper presented and investigated the content of Triparty and discussed the mathematical methods and thoughts in it, which indicates that the preference of the generality of algorithm helped Chuquet break away from the definition made by ancient Greeks so as to enrich the forms and concepts of nombres, including the free usage of negative numbers and irrational numbers, the invention of denoting the power of unkowns and the the order of roots by numbers, the operation creterion of calculation and the simplification of equations according to his advanced mathematical notations, hence he developed the symbolic algebra in both aspects of the notations and concepts. With the comprehension of the mathematics in Triparty, the author compared it to Liber Abaci of Fibonacci, revealed the fact that Triparty inherited many algorithms in Liber Abaci, and genelised, categorized, named and presented them in a new way with some developments. The extended comparison of four algorithms in Triparty to their counterparts in the works of several great...
