It was required for engineering bionics that understand the structure and mechanical behavior of natural biological materials. In order to develop biomimetic materials and design bionic surface, the surface microstructure, hydrophilic property, component , nano-indentation hardness of carp scales, relationship between their structure and their mechanical property were examined. Also, the coefficient of Gr15 steel ball and Q235 steel plate when used loach mucus as lubricant was tested. The results obtained would provid a new clue and method for developing biomimetic materials, designing bionic surfaces and developing environment-well lubricant.A 3D laser scanning confocal microscope was used for examining the microstructure of carp scale surfaces. The results showed that there were obvious differences of microstructure in basal area, apical area and two lateral areas of carp scale. Grooves were found in the entire surface of carp scale, but denticular knobbles and ridges were only existed in the basal and the apical of the carp scale. It was found by OCA contact angle measurement that the contact angle of water on the surfaces of the carp scale was less than 90 degree, indicating that the carp scale surface was hydrophilic. The average contact angle of water on the lateral area, the basal area and the apical area was increasing in that order for a same carp scale. The component of carp scale was measured .The content of water, ash, protein, fat and sugar of carp scale was 18.98%wt, 65%wt, 74.38%wt, 0.73%wt, 0.25%wt,...
