Cotton fiber is one of the most important textile materials in the world. It is elongated from a single ovule epidermis cell. Cotton fiber development consists of four overlapping developmental stages: fiber initiation, cell elongation, secondary wall deposition and maturation. The whole development stages take about 55 days. In addition to their economic importance, cotton fibers are an ideal experimental system to study cellular and developmental events, as cotton fiber development is characterized by a precise and synchronous growth pattern.
