Traditionally, the geocoding or georeferencing is solved indirectly applying a number of well known ground control points. In classical photogrammetry this task is solved with aerial triangulation (AT) for multiple images. Try hard to reduce and even shake off the dependent of ground control points involved in photogrammetric mapping has been the important subject of extensive research over the past time. With the availability of the Global Position System (GPS) and with the decreasing costs of inertial navigation system (INS), the integrated GPS/INS has been used in aerial photography and remote sensing. Performance of integrated GPS/INS system in aerial photography and remote sensing allows the direct measurement of the position and attitude parameters of the sensor stations during the time of exposure, so it enables a variety of mapping products with minimal ground control, even without the use of traditional ground control. Using integrated GPS/INS systems many applications can be realized more efficiently and economically. This paper mainly investigates the theory and application of GPS/INS-supported aerial photogrammetry .The main research work is concluded as follows:1. Describes the basic principles of differential GPS, inertial navigation system and integrated GPS/INS system.2. Discusses the two main approach of integrated systems in aerial photography, direct georeferencing and GPS/INS-assisted Aerotriangulation. Also analyses the mathematic models, the different using condition of them.3. Discusses the critical techniques in GPS/INS-supported photogrammetry just like how to configure differential GPS base-station locations? how to plan a calibration field? how to flythe calibration field? how to calculate the accuracy position of base stations?4. According to the test of POSAV510 done last year, study the application of POS supported aerial photogrammetry. After the analysis of the test data, summarizes the fly solution and technical workflow of GPS/INS-supported photogrammetry.
