Hopea chinensis H.-M. blongs to Hopea and Dipterocarpaceae,is a typical plant species of tropical rain seasonal forest in China.It's an endemic species of Guangxi Shiwandashan,its habitat is valley forest or forests on mountain slopes below an altitude of 600 metres in Shiwandashan. It's durable and rotten proof.It can be used to build military projects,ships,mechanics,and high-quality furniture.At present its distribution area and amounts are declining.The paper studies the biological and ecological aspects of Hopea chinensis ,including the threatening factors have been analyzed and several measures for effective preserving the species have been prosed.The results are as follows:(1) Hopea chinensis (Hopea hongayanensis)is the rare and endangered species,belongs to Dipterocarpaceae.The nature distribution area of Hopea chinensis is narrow and distributed in a fragmentary way.It is being threatened by timber exploitation.There are Hopea chinensis in the valley forest in Shiwandashan ,they have been destroyed seriously.Most of them are seedlings,young trees and rudiments.(2) Hopea chinensis is suitable to warm,humidity,thin,humus-lacked,well-drained brick-red acidic soil,and has high demand for light and temperature.The community of Hopea chinensis is tropical seasonal rain forest.The forest has abundant plant species;Spermatophytic floristic analysis ,tropical characteristics is obvious;The life form shows,Phanerophtes is 82%,abundant lianas and epiphytes in the interlayer,most of the lianas are woody,the forest is thoroughly a vegetation type of tropical valley rain forest.(3) Hopea chinensis distributed in a fragmentary and interruption way in the natural distribution area,it is confined to the narrow habitat.The results showed that the spatial distribution pattern of the population fit clump dispersion pattern in different scales ,but The pattern intensity was high.In the process of development,the contagious intensity of the population was gradually declined from seedling to adult trees,while the random distribution pattern appeared in big trees. Hopea chinensis can produce a great deal of seeds,so the strong competitions among the seedlings decreased the density and contagious intensity of population.As the individual occupied its own ecological niche,the contagious intensity of the population had slight increased because of the alleviative competition between the individuals,but when the individual needed more resources and expanded its ecological niche,the competitions of intra-population and inter-population became intensive again,with the result that...
