Hydrologic simulations in non-data or data scarce regions are now one of the hotspots and the difficulties in Hydrologic researches. In the view of the characters of data scarce regions in the northwest of China, this paper combines TRMM PR (Tropical Rainfall Measuring Mission Precipitation Radar) data and few observations to interpolate precipitation in data scarce areas. Macro-scale land hydrologic VIC (Variable Infiltration Capacity) model is established to testify it. It does some appliance research in hydrological simulation in data scarce region in the northwest of China. This paper summarized hydrological characters, distribution of precipitation and runoff in arid and semiarid regions in the northwest of China on the basis of the previous researches. It introduces a spatial interpolation method of precipitation according to the relationship of TRMM PR data and few observations in data scarce area. It interpolates precipitation and temperature of Kaidu river basin as an example, and macro-scale land hydrologic VIC model is established to simulate and validate the monthly runoff. The results show that this method is feasible in interpolation precipitation of Kaidu river basin. The simulation of VIC model in Kaidu river basin is accurate. It is able to use in area water resource to estimate and analysis of data scarce regions.Precipitation, evaporation, air temperature and runoff in Bositenghu Lake basin are primary analyzed on the basis of hydrological simulation of VIC model. It shows the hydrological features and trend of Bositenghu Lake basin from 1980s. It provides the reference for exploitation and utilization of local water resources.
