The pathway of NO-sGC-cGMP cell signaling plays an important role in mammals. It regulates vasodilation and inhibits blood platelets coagulating in blood circulation system, regulates relaxing of smooth muscle and gland secretion in digestive system, regulates LTP effect and the axon growth of neuron cell in central nervous system. In kidney it regulates the concentration of urine. In male reproduction, it involves in the process of androgen secreting, spermatogenesis and penis erection. Soluble guanylate cyclase (sGC) is a key molecule of NO-sGC-cGMP cell signaling transduction way and exist in heterodimer in vivo. sGC α 1/ β 1 is an common isoform of sGC and exists universally in lung, kidney, liver, neuron cells, muscle cells. Epididymis is a most complex and important organ in male reproduction system except testis. Knowledge of anatomy and histological study in epididymis at present is very limited. In this dissertation, I have eximined the anatomy and histology of male reproduction system, especially of epididymis intensively. In addition, the expression patterns of sGC α 1 and β 1 subunits in the male reproductive system of rats have been investigated.In anatomic study, we have taken many pictures and tried to give people an visual impression. I found that the ventral lobules of prostate gland and bulbourethral gland have different characteristics with other studys. There is a septum in lower part of rat abdominal cavity which has not been reported, it has a profound significance in keeping testises in right position and in surgical operation in abdominal cavity.I described the histological characteristics of the male reproductive organs of rats, especially epididymis , with a lot of pictures in every side. In this study, we also have some new finding. The lumen diameter and the epithelial height of aged rat prostate gland ducts in larger than adult rat. In seminal vesicle, we found it can be devided into two parts, the secretion part and the reserved part, and lack transitional part. In aged rat epididymis, we found the a large amount of halo cell exist in caput.
