Three Gorges Reservoir Area was chosen as the study area in this paper, resorting to MODIS-NDVI vegetation index, MODIS-LAI vegetation index,Landsat remotely-sensend data and so on, we applied the method and technology of quantitive derivation, qualitative analysis and GIS (technique of Geographical Information System) spacial analysis to establish the basic method of extracting LUCC (Land use land cover ) information and extract the LUCC information of demonstrative region (yichang),we also inquired the laws of spatial-temporal distribution of LUCC in three gorges reservoir area from 2000a to 2004a and analyze the leading cause. The research results offerred certain foundations for environmental conservations and improvements of three gorges reservoir Area. The study has led to the following findings and conclusions:1. Establishing the monitoring index system of environment. Vegetation fraction (FG) and Leaf Area Index (LAI) represent respectively the horizontal and vertical land vegetation cover. Taking the two parameters as indicative index can adequately reflect the laws of spatial-temporal distribution and variational trend of vegetation cover, the result indicate that they also can reflect the change information of land use.2.An improved LAI deriving method is prosposed based on Landsat TM remote sensing data: according to the correlation between reflectivity of corrected image and LAI which are brought forward by PRICE, considering soil line equation, we have derived the LAI image of demonstrative region.3.Based on land use change data of 1995-2000,integrating the result of vegetation fraction change vector analysis and migration,we can draw the conclusion that the change of vegetation fraction in three gorges reservoir area hold definited continuity by far from starting work of the three gorges project in Dec. 1994.4.Certain correlation are presented between the change of Land vegetation cover and the change of population in the region from the analysis of population of recent years in Three Gorges Reservoir Area. 5.Extract land use/vegetation cover change information of Three Gorges Reservoir Area using...
