Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR), as a kind of active remote sensor, is a system that can scan and image earth surface object in a high resolution using its electromagnetic wave. It will be paid more and more attention to from the circle of remote sensing, due to its capability of detecting and penetrating earth surface in all weather and full time.In this thesis, the remote sensing study of underwater topography by SAR is presented. There are four chapters and two appendixes, and the contents of each chapter are arranged as follows.Chapter 1 describes the background and the significance of the study in this thesis, and the technique of oceanic remote sensing and the history of SAR remote sensing of underwater topography.Chapter 2 introduces the principles of SAR remote sensing, consisting of the principles of SAR working, the systemic parameters of SAR and a simple introduction of some basic conceptions of SAR oceanic remote sensing as well as Bragg scattering model.Chapter 3 is the main part of the thesis. In this chapter is described the basic principle of underwater topography remote sensing by SAR firstly. Then, based on the imaging mechanism of SAR remote sensing of underwater bottom topography, in terms of the two-dimensional hydrodynamic simplified model of the tidal flow, by using the advanced model of SAR remote sensing proposed by Fan et al. (2005a, b) recently, with taking the impact of the lee waves within the back range of the semi-elliptical bottom topography on surface gravity-capillary waves into account, the two-dimensional simulation model of SAR remote sensing of the underwater semi-elliptical bottom topography is built up. The effects of various radar bands,...
