The mangrove Heritiera littoralis was researched in this paper, including community survey, shape and structure of fruits and seeds, the effect of different pretreatments on fruits germination rates and different pretreatments, salinities, soil substrates on seeds germination rates, seedlings growth mode, cutting propagation. It could afford important foundational and scientific bases to reproductive ecology research, community protection and man-made recovery. The results were as follows:(1)The density of fruits in the H. littoralis community of Huangzhu river was about 3.5 per square meter, and there was phenomenon that fruits were gnawed by animals and insects. There were few fruits germinating in the short period of time after dropping. The number of seedlings in Huangzhu river and Zhushan village was more in 0-0.5m height grade than others and adult trees were more in 1.0-1.5m height grade and tree was single above 5.5m. The change in HMttoralis number with tree height was a typical inverse shape of pyramid as a whole, and the communities were degenerative.(2)The fruit of HMttoralis had wing and was ligniferous, it's inner pericarp was spongy. These characters made fruits drifting more easily and maintaining vigor longer. It's shape characters were relatively stable, variance was not significant. The weight proportion(1.8 : 1) between seed and pericarp. The linear regression model between fruit weight and shape indexes was Y= 0.388X2+0.4X3-14.165(Y-fruit weight; X2-fruit width; X3-fruit thickness). There was significant positive correlation between fruit flotage and fruit volume, and there were third fruits having better floating capability. Their flotage indexes were above 1 when the salinity was 28. These fruits drifted more easily but other fruits would have better floating capability if the salinity was above 28.(3) Removing pericarp was a better pretreatment, the germination rate reached to 93.3%. The next was acid pretreatment, germination rate was 73.3%.
