Amphibian is thought to be the indicator of the health of the environment, because their infiltrative skin made them more susceptive to the quality of habitat. The data of the distribution, abundance, population trends, habitat associations, and threats for amphibian were the foundation and base of the conservation of amphibian. The rice frog was one of the most distributed amphibian in Asia, and was the most distributed rice frog in Shanghai. But the study on the rice frog was not systematic. Now the data was relatively easy to be collect. Collecting the data on population ecology of the rice frog would be significant for the understanding the dynamic, demographics of the rice frog. The study on the relationship of population and environment would help to know the potential threats to the rice frogs. All of these would be significant for the conservation and utilization of the rice frog. The thesis invested the data on the population ecology of the rice frog in 2004~2005. The data included the hibernation, the population dynamic, the demographics of the rice frog, and the population character in different towns. The result suggested that:In the year of 2005, the rice frog began to come out from hibernation hollows at the end of March. During the chilly days the rice frog would go back to the hollows. And the rice frog began to hibernate at the end of October, and during the warm days the rice frog would be activity. During the days between two hibernations, the rice frog always moved in the agricultural areas. In the months of June and August the rice frog bred twice in the race land. The population fluctuated in the year. The population quantity got to the peak in July, and September followed, ranged like that:July>Septcmber>August>October>June>May>April. The range was resulted in the recruitment and variation in larval survival. The average length of the rice frog ranged like that: May>June>October>September>April>July>August. The reason was the recruitment of population and growth of individuals. The individual nutritional condition varied in different months. T-test of weight/length...
