50 accessions belonging to 11 Fagopyrum species (incl. 7 species of big-achene-group buckwheat and 4 species of small-achene-group buckwheat) were studied by means of 10 random primers and Random Amplified Polymorphic DNA (RAPD) technique. The results are as follows:1. The RAPD fingerprint maps for buckwheat species identification were constructed, which can show the interspecific differences of genus Fagopyrum and offer the bases and data for genetic mapping.2. The phylogeny map of Fagopyrum species on the basis of RAPD was established, much helpful for understanding the interspecific systematical relationships and the origin of cultivated buckwheat.3. There are much great differences between the big achene group and small achene group on DNA level.4. The differentiation of F. tataricum DNA is the biggest in big achene group, much different from other species in the big-achene-group buckwheat.5. F.megaspartanium has great differentiations on DNA level and can be classified into two types: southwest Guizhou type and other-region type.
