Diode-pumped solid-state lasers have many advantages such as good quality of laser, high efficiency, long longevity, all solid-state, good stability, small volume and light weight. Compared with side-pumped solid-state lasers by laser-diode, end-pumped solid-state lasers have many advantages such as better mode matched, lower threshold, higher efficiency and so on.In chapter one, the development and the advantage of Diode-pumped solid-state laser has been state. At the end of this chapter, the field in which the DPSSL has been used is discussed. In chapter two, a DPSSL which uses Nd:YAG as laser crystal ,Cr4+:YAG as Q-switch, KTP as double frequency crystal is designed. In the first part of this chapter, the main characters of Nd:YAG crystal are stated and a suitable resonant cavity is selected. The main factor effect the quality of output laser thermal effect is also investigated and strategies to solve this problem are also brought forward. In the second part of chapter two, the property of nonlinear crystals is discussed and the character of KTP is also stated in this part. In the third part of this chapter, passive Q-switch is discussed. And when the Cr4+:YAG is placed at the Brewster angle is also discussed here. The last part of this chapter shows the result of the laser designed. In chapter three, a new type in-line type micropulse lidar is discussed and the principle of the waveform transducer is also stated in this chapter. Chapter four mainly shows the application of visibility micro-pulse lidar designed by Ocean remote Sensing Institute in atmosphere visibility measurement. The results of the comparison experiment with visibility meter are also showed in this chapter.
