Breeding Behavior And Seasonal Variation Of The Testis Structure In The Gansu Zokor (Myospalax Cansus)

The Gansu zokor (Myospalax cansus) is breeding seasonally. The best time to kill them is the breeding season, but the accurate time is not known. We have studied the breeding biology of Gansu zokor by the observation of their behavior and measured the histological changes in breeding season. The conclusions will be showed as follow:To study of odor choice of the Gansu zokor (Myospalax cansus) ,during the anaphase of breeding season:1. The male Gansu zokors sniff the female Gansu zokor's urine, In converged place of Y two arms, stopping frequently and stopping time longer after urine being put, sniffing frequency more, sniffing time longer;with the same result as in odor box's door which, sometimes, retreating;In odor box, visiting frequency with no difference, stopping time longer, sniffing frequency more, sniffing time longer after urine being put, every times sniffing time shorter, sometimes bit cultivateutensil. So urine of female can restrain male's behavior during breeding season.2. The female Gansu zokors sniff the male Gansu zokor's urine, In converged place of Y two arms, stopping frequency more after urine being put and stopping time have no difference, sniffing frequency and Sniffing time have no difference;In odor box door, stopping frequency more, stopping time have no difference after urine being put, sniffing frequency have no difference and Sniffing time longer, less retreating;In odor box ,Visiting odor box's frequency have no difference ,stopping time longer, sniffing time and sniffing frequency have no difference . So Male's urine can restrain female's behavior in breeding time.3. The male Gansu zokors sniff the male Gansu zokor's urine, In converged place of Y two arms, stopping frequency more after urine being put and stopping time longer, Sniffing frequency more and sniffing time longer;In odor box door, stopping frequency more and stopping time longer, sniffing frequency more and sniffing time longer after urine being put, more retreating;In odor box, visiting odor box frequency more, stopping time longer, sniffing time longer, Sniffing frequency more. So male urine canrestrain male's behavior.4. The female Gansu zokors sniff the female Gansu zokor's urine, In converged place of Y two arms, stopping frequency and stopping time have no difference, and sniffing frequency and sniffing time have no difference as well. In odor box door, stopping frequency and stopping time have no difference after urine being put, Sniffing frequency more, Sniffing time have no difference and more retreating;In odor box, visiting odor box frequency more, stopping time longer, sniffing frequency and Sniffing time have no difference. So urine of female can't restrain or attract female's behavior.5. Testis become much bigger in March, and the biggest in April, then contracted from May to November. Testis quotiety, the result testical weight divide avoirdupois, higher in March, the highest in April and decreasing from May to October, slightly higher in November. To testis organize slice, in March, interstitial cell is distinct, the nucleus is ruleless and bigger, like an ellipse or shuttle;holding cell, spermatogonium, spermatid delaminated distinctly, convoluted seminiferous tubule with more abnormality sperm, while duct cavity with less. In April, volume of testicle increases;spermatogonium, spermatocyte, spermatid with much spiking activity;convoluted seminiferous tubule wider, a great deal of sperms have released into tubule. In May, duct cavity with many sperms, tube wall wide, some testicles present convoluted seminiferous tubule in which with many mature sperms and many interstitial cell, convoluted seminiferous tubule also with sperms in June. July with the same as June, but some convoluted seminiferous tubule empty, spermic epidermis growing. August with some holding cell, interstitial cell not distinct, duct cavity contracted, September without sperm. With few cell layers, and no sperm in October. Duct very thin, much cell flayers in November6. Accoding to the conclusion of testis tissue anatomise, breeding period is from May to July.
