The techniques of the visualization and real-time rendering of Three-dimension (3D) terrain surface are hot research topics in Geographic Information System (GIS), Digital Photogrammetry (DP), Virtual Reality (VR) and other associated fields.Based on the algorithm implement of the reference No.10, this paper mainly discusses how to build up an integral terrain visualization platform and further strengthen visualization effect and extend its 3-D analysis function on this base.Firstly, the model of 3-D visualization, its work environment and data format are fully analyzed in this paper. As a result, we realize the data translation between different formats for the purpose of the necessary data of this 3-D visualization application and then form a series of translation, management and verification steps about the DEM data.Secondly, the 3-D visualization effect is extended besides the original triangle net and Terrain Texture effect, and we offer the light-effect of 3-D visualization and layer color render mode. In this part, the different algorithms for light-effect are discussed in details and a best way for the calculation of a large amount of vertexes normal is presented. In addition, the implement theory and procedure of introjections translation are discussed as the base of 3-D analysis, and the ordinary ways and the Maps algebra uses in 3-D analysis are introduced fat brief.Finally, the more reasonable 3-D visualization model of Multiple Resolution in the single layer is referred and its realization and data structure are discussed in this paper. According to the author's cognition of the prior model, an open platform blueprint of 3-D visualization application is drawn up in order to give support to the further research.Because of the limited time and the author's ability, much more work should be done beyond this paper later on. In a word, the main purpose of this paper is a design plan to ascending the visualization application's value.
