Using the inverted arithmetic, the atmospheric heat sources of the region of the Tibetan Plateau (TP) from 1948 to 2002 are computed. Then the climatic character and the temporal spatial patterns of the heat sources over the TP are analyzed. And here the relationships between the heat sources anomalies and the movement of the South High, the anomalies of the temperature and precipitation in China and the summer East Asian monsoon are studied emphatically. The results are summarized as follows:(l)In spring the atmosphere over the TP is the heat source by all layers' integral, but the cold sources lie in the high troposphere layer (upon 250hPa) over the TP. In March the heating action of the plateau to the atmosphere is remarkable compared with the round regions. In spring there is an advancing process from westward to eastward to heat the atmosphere over the plateau. The west-TP and east-TP are the changing active area of the heat source in spring.(2) It is found that the distribution of the spring heat source of the west-TP and east-TP is opposite by using the EOF technique. There is an obvious interdecadal character to the first mode time coefficient. And in 1972 the anomalies change. It is found that there is a buildup trend of the spring index of the heat sources over the TP. And the influence of the winter East Asian monsoon over the TP heat anomalies is significant. When the winter East Asian monsoon is weaker (stronger), the spring index of the TP heat sources is stronger (weaker).(3)There is a springing effect of the Indo-China Peninsula heat sources to the western advancing of the South High. The establishment and exit of the South High over the TP, are influenced by the heat accumulation of the plateau and the changing of the circulation. It is found that there is a maintaining effect of the summer heat sources over the TP to the South High.(4) There are better relationships between the spring heat anomalies over the TP to the anomalies of China temperature and precipitation in spring and summer. Using SVD technique, the first mode between the spring heat sources over the TP and the spring temperature and precipitation in China shows that: when the heat sources over the southeast , middle and west part of TP are negative exceptional, the temperature in the northeast, North China, Mongolia, South China, the middle and down stream of Yellow River and Yangtze River are positive exceptional. When spring heat sources over the east-TP are positive exceptional with the west-TP's opposite, the precipitation of the lower reaches of Yellow River and partial Mongolia are negative exceptional with the South China's positive. The first mode between the spring heat sources over the TP and the summer temperature and precipitation in China shows that: when spring heat sources over the east-TP are negative exceptional with thewest-TP's opposite, the summer temperature in middle reaches of Yangtze River is positive exceptional with South China> South SinkiangN Northeast China> East Mongolia's negative. When spring heat sources over the east-TP are positive exceptional with the west-TP's opposite, the summer precipitation only in East Shandong Byland is negative exceptional with North Zhej iang positive.(5) There is an interdecadal relationship between the spring heat sources over the East Tibetan Plateau and the summer East Asian monsoon. That is there exits negative correlation between them before 1978.When the heat sources over the East-TP are stronger (weaker), the summer East Asian monsoon is weaker (stronger). And the relationship between them is blurry after 1977.
