The Geostationary Meteorological Satellite FY-2C, which has five channels (infrared, split, water-vapor, mid-wave infrared window, as well visible window) for remote sensing is a native one for business use. Global observation of atmospheric wind fields are potentially the most important data in the analysis for numerical prediction.First, a cloud motion wind (CMW) inferring system has been developed to derive wind fields from 2 or 3 geostationary meteorological satellite images which are temporally continuous and projected by equidistance. The inferring scheme is composed of calculation for cloud motion vectors and their quality-controlling. Meanwhile, pressure height assignment to a cloud motion vector is based on the brightness temperature extracted from infrared window image and the standard atmospheric temperature profile or a temperature profile output from NWP. Combining the above relationship with the statistic relationship between infrared and water vapor measurements, height assignment of semi-transmissive cirrus cloud was made.Secondly, this system is applied in the analysis and research of typhoon. Of all natural disasters, typhoon poses the most dangerous threat to life and property. It is very important to recognize typhoon and locate the center through satellite image. The sequent satellite images may reflect dynamic information of the drift wind. It has the advantage over single image in typhoon prediction. In the thesis, existing cloud motion wind algorithm is improved and a Cloud motion Wind Inferring System (CWIS) has been developed to derive wind fields from 2 or 3 infrared window images of FY-2C which are temporally continuous and projected by equidistance. Inthe end, we take the typhoon "Matsa", "Khanun" and "Longwang" for instance to discuss the application of CWIS.
