Currently, in order to resolve the matter of domestic XML spatial metadata storing, and to manage the metadata more effectively, the dissertation has put forward a project about how to store the XML spatial metadata used the relational database. At first, the author expatiated the characteristic of the XML spatial metadata, secondly, analyzed the current large commercial relational database is how to sustain the XML data, and concluded the method of storing the XML spatial metadata in the relational database.Considering the defection of traditional XML spatial metadata pattern, the paper adopted the XML Schema to restrict the spatial metadata XML document, so the author thought out a storing strategy of spatial metadata based on XML Schema. It is stored the XML spatial metadata that via the mapping from the XML Schema pattern to the relational pattern. The spatial metadata storing system based on XML Schema is composed of the creation of XML Schema, pattern conversion, data storing and query output. The paper detailed the creation of spatial metadata's XML Schema and studied the pattern conversion arithmetic in-depth. At the same time the author particularly discussed the store and query output of the XML data.For the sake of our storing strategy of spatial metadata based on XML Schema, we will use XML spatial metadata as the data source that built by depicting the metadata criterion in geographical information sharing domain, at the same time adopt the SQL Server2000 relational database. The result of experimentation made clear that the storing strategy could store the XML spatial metadata in the relational database integrally. It made the best of the advantage of the relational database to manage spatial metadata, so that we realized the storage and output of XML spatial metadata effectively according to the relational pattern.
