With the development of the RS and GIS, the application of remote sensing and Geographic Information System becomes more and more widely. Modern RS technique has entered a new stage that can provide various types of earth observation data with dynamic, frequent, exact, and multiple means. The RS image processing technique matures from day to day, and people discover various land surface phenomena and laws through processing, analyzing, renewing, and retrieving from the RS data. The powerful spatial analysis function of GIS also offers us more effective tools and platforms to process spatial data. The thesis carry out semi-automatic change detection and water bodies extraction utilizing the remote sensing image and topographical map, mainly analyses the characteristics of the remotely sensing image and topographical map, makes good use of methods about remote sensing image processing to extract water bodies, and utilizes difference method and spatial analysis method to carry out change detection of extracted water bodies, acquiring the change characteristics of the water bodies of land surface, then offers favorable support for many applications such as environmental monitoring, flood prevention, the geographical database updating. The main research contents of the thesis can be sum up as the following:The thesis collects and summarizes current domestic and abroad research situation and progress of polygon feature extraction techniques and change detection technology, introduces the various theoretical foundations and practical work of preparation about the remote sensing image and scanning topographical map, the methods that utilize the remote sensing image to extract the water body are summarized and studied on the basis of analyzing spectrum characteristic and water body characteristic in the remote sensing image, the methods of semi-automation extraction of the corresponding water body in the topographic map are studied especially , comparing and analyzing different methods are carried out, difference method and GIS spatial analysis method are utilized to carry out change detection about the water body extracted from the topographical map and the remote sensing image mentioned above, in the end this thesis summarizes the work that had been done by the author, and prospects the research direction in the future.
